Episode 30: The Opioid Overdose Crisis
In the first segment, Sophy and Kelly speak with Zachary Siegel, a freelance journalist and writer whose writing focuses on the intersection of public health and criminal justice in the context of drugs, about the scope of the opioid overdose crisis, what legislation and treatment would help, why more insn't already being done, and what individuals can do to advocate for evidence-based treatment methods. In the second segment, they speak with Sarah Hargrove, a research analyst for The Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center (KIPRC), about the importance of accurate data in understanding the opioid problem, what data can tell us about the regional differences in the epidemic, and the current limitations in our data.
