Episode 472: Juliana Stratton (Vote Her In, Episode 58)
Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton, a former State Representative and a leader in criminal justice reform, joins us for this week’s #VoteHerIn podcast, a collaboration of Two Broads Talking Politics & author Rebecca Sive.
Last week, we witnessed the historic inauguration of the first Black, South Asian, and woman, as Vice-President of the US. Millions of women here at-home, as well as around the world, were jumping up and down for joy. We’ll discuss Kamala Harris’s ascension to this role, and what its significance is in terms of Black women’s rise to political and governmental power. We’ll also discuss the role of the Vice President, which has, of course, varied tremendously from president to president. And, we’ll explore the exponential rise of Black women to political power and governmental office, in a myriad of contexts, including the US Congress.
